Flying Flags

July 4, 2018July 4, 2018 Heather (she/her/hers)

I remember sitting in my second-grade class, my favorite elementary school teacher walking languidly between our desks on a warm, end of the school year day. It was a private, Lutheran school in mostly Hispanic town, but all the faces around me were white. In second grade, none of that registered. The thing that makes… Continue reading Flying Flags

I am settling into this season with so much peace. I listened to an interview with @cfigueres on @onbeing last night, and I resonated so deeply with the hope she says we must learn to cultivate in order to come together and heal our planet. The deeper my curiosity dives into the tedium of the natural world, the more I am convinced that we can save ourselves and our descendants, restoring our oneness with the earth. It’s an odd hope to be feeling so fervently, especially as I live in the northern hemisphere and we are approaching the season of death and decay. But here we are. The red tail hawk waited for me on the power lines today, and didn’t fly away I gave him my nod. The sun’s final breath of color before setting for the evening was a heartbreaking lavender, washing the fields, the cedar trunks, even the dying blackberry brambles in so much purple it felt otherworldly. The moon is full, my son sleeps next to me, and I am deeply and utterly at home.
❤️❤️❤️

I’ve started a new Pinterest board, and it’s exciting and defeating at the same time. Because what I’m pinning and researching are folklore and history for the storyboard of a novel. And because I’ve let writing projects go in the past.
I am my own muse.
Stay connected ❤️ The call to tune out is strong. The urge to fall into line or fall asleep can be overwhelming. But please stay near to yourself and to the ever-breathing life around you.
